Teaching

I teach across music industry studies, copyright and contracts, AI and digital media, and music performance and pedagogy. My teaching is both research-led and practice-informed, and I am particularly interested in helping students connect academic concepts, legal and policy debates, and real-world industry practice. Across my teaching, I aim to support students in developing critical thinking, subject expertise, and confidence in applying their knowledge to contemporary challenges in music and the creative industries.

Music Industry

MA Music Industry Studies: Copyright and Contracts
Module convenor. Teaching covers music contracts and agreements, UK copyright law, mechanical and related rights, EU and US copyright law, international copyright treaties, licensing frameworks, royalty distribution, infringement, copyright exceptions, and policy development.

Self-management for the Music Industries
Module convenor. Teaching includes business planning, marketing plans, financial documentation, reflective practice, and individual tutorial support, with a focus on preparing students for professional work in the music industries.

My teaching in this area draws directly on my research into AI, copyright, and the creative industries.

AI and Digital Media
Module teacher. Teaching includes AI’s impact on the creative industries, rights and regulation, online harms, content moderation, machine learning, algorithmic fairness, bias and discrimination, advertising technologies, social media platforms, and media policy.

Dissertation Supervision

MA Music Industry Studies: Dissertation Supervision
One-to-one supervision of MA students undertaking independent research on topics including live music, social media, streaming, music labels, distribution, artist development, and consumer behaviour. Supervision includes support with ethics, research design, analysis, and academic writing.
